Purpose of Survey

To ensure that the General Plan revision for the City of Claremont reflects the values, priorities and concerns of all residents in the City - not just those that actively participate in the workshops or advisory committees - the City commissioned True North Research to design and conduct a survey that would produce objective, statistically reliable measures of residents’ opinions on a number of key issues that will be addressed in the Plan. The results of the survey -- detailed in the following pages -- will be used by the City Council, Planning Commission, staff, GPAC, and CCC in crafting the updated General Plan document.

Brief Overview of Methodology

A total of 400 randomly selected adult residents participated in the survey between August 17 and September 2, 2004. Probability-based sampling techniques and careful monitoring of the sample as data collection progressed resulted in a sample that is representative of the adult population in the City of Claremont on key demographic traits. The interviews averaged 15 minutes in length.
